Heat Protectant – the most important product you will invest in

You really need to think about what we put our hair through when we apply extreme heat time and time again, we wonder why our locks are feeling dry while using a heat tool 2-4 times per week

Terrible to say but even as a hairdresser I became lazy with using a heat protectant and my hair suffered majorly because of it. You need to remember the front of your hair is then most fragile as it’s the finest part of your locks and also the part we apply the most heat to, I guarantee right now you are either looking at the front of your hair or feeling it thinking omg yes this is me, I always want to grow these pieces and I never can!!! Heat protectant to the rescue! It must be applied EVERY SINGLE TIME you apply any type of heat to your hair, blow driers, irons, curling wands! Apply when its wet before blow-drying and then again before using any heat iron or wand, it will work to smooth the cuticle as well as acting as the barriers between the hair and the styling tool sealing in moisture and helping to fight frizz. This will help you on your way to growing out those pesky front pieces and also help you to have those beautiful smooth ends instead of those broken and dry ends. The product we have fallen head over heels in love with is the Moroccan oil protect and prevent, it contains a leave in moisturiser to aid with the health of your hair while protecting it from the heat.

Now heat protectants aren’t god, they cant completed stop damage from heat, the only way to do that is to stop with any heat tools (pfffttt hello 80s frizz) but they will reduce the damage you will cause to your hair and make sure they are being the security guard in between the heat and your hair!

If you don’t have one, RUN, literally RUN to the nearest hairdresser and invent in one today! Alternatively call us know and we can send you one in the post!

Ok guys, it’s time to talk about a very important and passionate subject at La Sorella………. Olaplex! I hear you asking but what is it? What does it do? Why is it so important? Well if you have been hiding under a rock for the past 3 years, Olaplex has revolutionized the hairdressing industry. For the first time ever, we are able to push the boundaries of colour (especially when it comes to lighting the hair) without destroying how your hair looks and feels. Not only that but it makes ALLLLL hair feel brand new again!

So, let’s explain this Babes, Olaplex is a 3 system in Salon Treatment that literally repairs the bonds in the hair, the first 2 steps are done in salon either in colour or at the basin. The Olaplex step 1 has 100% active ingredient so we think this one is the most important, it is then paired with number 2 that also has the active ingredient so together they are a dynamic duo. We then send you home with a bottle of the number 3! This little baby keeps the party going in your hair until you see us again. It is used by applying a 50cent piece amount to damp hair (this doesn’t mean you have to wash it first, we recommend putting your hair under the tap to save time) then you leave that baby in for minimum of 10mins, we would recommend up to an hour but you can also leave it in all day and night without any issues for those who are time poor (cough cough ‘mums’) then simply shampoo and condition it out! (there is also a shampoo and conditioner in this range which is the 4 & 5 that I literally made Jen feel my hair when I was showering it is that good, the foaming action on it….OMG

So guys Olaplex isn’t just for blondes but we really feel it is for everybody, if you think about it our hair is made of lots of bonds, to get creative it’s like a ladder, when your hair is subjected to colour, any heat tools, the beach, pools and sun, when we put out hair or go to bed with wet hair, when we comb it vigorously. All these things are breaking those steps in our hair ladder and when there are no steps left what happens? Well that hair goes to god people, it literally breaks off. So Olaplex goes in and repairs those steps, it puts all those steps back into the hair so that ladder is strong again and you can continue to do all those things to your hair and still keep it lush on your head! So, do you now see why it is sooooooo important!

It’s also amazing at softening grey hair as remember that grey hair doesn’t have any colour bonds left so it loses its softness and feels course, by adding Olaplex bonds it helps to take it back to feeling smooth and more manageable. It’s also the be all and end all if you have damaged or dry hair already and are doing everything to repair it, you can drop into the salon and have the step 1 & 2 put on your hair and leave it in all day, when you wash it out, you will come in and snug me you will be so happy! We never have to ‘sell’ Olaplex, simply ask the client next to you what they think of Olaplex as they have been using it for years and they do our job for us, the proof is in the pudding peeps, La Sorella clients have lush hair! So just so you know Olaplex isfree of silicone, sulphates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, gluten and is never tested on animals but please remember Olaplex may be a game changer but it is not a magical wand, we still need to use our professional judgement and wont attempt anything with Olaplex that would create damaged hair, we are healthy hair first and foremost at La Sorella.

Truth…… the lightening process

Ok ladies (and any sexy men that want to read my ramblings)

This is my first blog and something I plan to keep up, keeping in mind I am getting rounder everyday with this pregnancy and shortly I’ll have a new human to entertain me. I want to bring you a world of information that I have after 11 years of being in this industry! So feel free to send me emails with questions you need answering and I will always try my best to give you my honest answers. I also have some amazing friends in this industry as well as the makeup and beauty world that I can question as well.

So it’s time to get your hair did! You walk into the salon with your dark locks that you have been colouring every 8 weeks with a box colour and you want to be Khloe Kardashian blonde (yes we get her pics a lot and why not her hair is on point) but what you don’t realise is your hair is saturated and those colour molecules that have taken home in the cortex of your hair take an f-bomb of time to remove. Other things like the build up of silicone from shit shampoo can also do this but that’s a story for a later day.

Sooooooooooo if your seeing the right hairdresser they will sit you down and say “babe this is going to take a while, definitely multiple appointments and I actually have no idea how today is going to turn out” yep the good ones will actually tell you that, that’s because we aren’t magicians, your hair will do what it wants. Some people are lucky and can lighten fast, others it feels like it takes years and it can be expensive. So what should you do? Depends on how determined you are for new hair. If you want to be a blonde or even a light brown then here are the tips to achieving it!

1. Find the right hairdresser that you feel confident and comfortable with and trust the information given. You want to stick with this babe because he or she will get you there but trust it will take time
2. Expect red, orange, yellow. As much as we can try to avoid this you just can’t! We will use toners/colours to put over the top to mask those pesky under colours but you have to pull through red first. Then orange (and this one takes the longest time because it’s the strongest colour to hold on the shaft) into yellow. You may need to have toners every few weeks to month to contain this warmth

3. Use olaplex always when lightening (again another massive blog will come on this because I am obsessed with this shit) but in quick form it’s the most incredible product to ever hit our shelves as hairdressers and just ask others that have used it, the proof is in the pudding

4. Use hairdresser recommended products. We aren’t trying to sell you a bunch of crap we sincerely care and don’t want you to spend $400 on a new client to wash it with detergent!

5. Don’t expect anything! If you do you will be disappointed, if you don’t you will be delighted.

6.Enjoy the ride love! Don’t be so impatient to get there just enjoy being the different stages! Miss Khloe Kardashian is the best for showing us this! She has been so many variations of blonde and enjoyed each stage so do the same!
